What’s Maya’s Wasteland?
Maya’s Wasteland is a passion project of mine, currently it is only a webcomic I write and produce by myself, but I plan in the future to turn it into an animated series.
The comic is a comedy and a parody of post-apocalyptic media. It follows the story of Maya, a curious little girl that has never seen the outside world and is forced to step out of her comfort zone and explore what is left of it in order to find her dad.
The comic is available for free on Tapas, Webtoon and Global Comix in English and Portuguese.
To make sure the illustrations stay consistent, I had to make a lot of reference material, specially for the main characters.
And whenever new characters are introduced to the story, of course they also have to be designed, be it the ones who have the most importance and focus on the story to simple background characters.
My Comic creation Process

Well,
comics won’t draw
themselves!
So I follow a simple pipelines:
1. Layout : I take my script and I divide it into pages, in the process making the layout of the panels, characters and speech bubbles.
2. Sketch: Using the Layout I make a more detailed sketch over it.
3. Lineart: Then, refining the sketch I create a lineart.
4. Colors: Then I do the lat colors and separate the layers by material to make the rendering process faster.
5.Shading: And finally, using a lot of clipping masks on each of the flat color layers I create the final shading for the comic page.
